Racism Without Racists?

Hi Vic,
While reading this article, I had to pause at one point to reread one section...it said
"But when there are other bystanders, so the individual responsibility to summon help may feel less obvious, whites will still summon help 75 percent of the time if the victim is white but only 38 percent of the time if the victim is black."I assume they are calling this prejudice, but I wonder if it is just the fact that people are not sure how to handle situations when those that are involved are "different" in some way...it could be language, physical abilities or color of skin. By nature, I believe people lose their confidence on how to handle problems and are not as quick to respond to them because they are in an unknown area or dealing with unknown people.I am not saying there is no prejudice in this reaction, but saying that all is not prejudice. Some is just human nature dealing with the unknown......Just a thought.... Debbie
